Except for our cheaper range of 'disposable' party wigs, all WIGWAM synthetic
wigs and hairpieces are made from the highest
quality monofibre which is colorfast and retains it style after washing.
The longevity of each piece depends on factors such as length, curl pattern and the
number of times per week/month that it is worn.
This can range from 3 months to two years plus. The average lifespan is 9-12 months.
Proper care and maintenance can double the life of your wig .
We recommend fibre hair products for monofibre hair. You will need: A synthetic
hair shampoo and spray on silicone conditioner both available from WIGWAM as well
as a fibre hair setting spray for extra hold that will wash out.
A clear silicone serum will serve as an alternative conditioner and can be
purchased at your local hair salon, chemist or department store.
The best guide to when a wig should be washed is its condition ;
Has the hair a build up of conditioner / wig setting spray or dirt /dust.
I.e. is it tacky to the touch? Is it limp or knotty?
a) Has it a smell of cigarette smoke, pollution etc.?
b) Do you feel that the cap is dirty?
If you can answer yes to any of the above wash as follows:
1. For straight hair: brush thoroughly but gently from the ends up with
a cushioned paddle brush. If tangled or damaged spray
with wig conditioner first.
2. For curly hair: Untangle individual curls from any knotting /matting
and then brush each tangled curl gently from the ends
up to the root carefully to avoid breaking the perm. Use a Denman brush or
comb and conditioner if needed, then twist the curl
around your finger to smooth it back into shape. Do not touch neat / intact curls.
NEVER LET TANGLING BUILD UP AS YOU WILL HAVE NO CURL PATTERN LEFT TO FOLLOW!
3. Fill a sink or basin of cold or tepid water, add, and mix a capful of shampoo.
Add your prepared piece (as per 1. & 2. ).
Leave for 10-15 minutes.
4. Swirl gently around basin. Never rub the hair except to remove lipstick stains.
5. Take the piece out and fill the basin with cold clean water. Immerse the wig
and swirl again.
6. Repeat step 5.
7. Allow the wig to drain completely on the draining board, over the shower hose
or suspended in the bath. I.e. drip dry.
8. Leave the piece to dry over the shower hose, on a wig-drying stand (WIGWAM) or
over a tall slender object such as a hairspray can.
If you are in a hurry, you can put it in a hot press or warm room away from the
source of heat.
NEVER USE HAIRDRYERS / CURLING TONGS/HAIR DYE OR HEATED ROLLERS ON YOUR PIECE.
9. When completely dry spray on conditioner and brush/ style as per steps 1. & 2.
IF YOU FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS YOU WILL ENJOY A LONGER LIFESPAN AND A MORE
REALISTIC LOOKING PRODUCT AND THEREFORE WILL NEED TO REPLACE YOUR PIECE LESS OFTEN.
